• Don’t believe a story just because you’ve heard it a few times because that does not make it factual.
• Our own experiences can deceive us so it is important to be able to distinguish good evidence from bad.

CHAPTER 5
• Knowing the facts can save you money, health and wealth unlike the case with Daniel Bullock who got spun into tax fraud and had to spend time in jail.
• The “Grey Goose Effect” is when someone chooses to buy a certain product because they think it’s better quality than a lower priced, similar item.
• The case of Chuck Hysong and his “False Hope” shows how the “sick” are willing to take huge leaps of faith in products and overlook the obvious spin.

• The book un-Spun, written by Brooks Jackson and Kathleen Hall Jamieson talks about how deception “is” and “has” been used to influence society through advertisement and politics.
• Clark Stanely called himself the Rattlesnake King, while he sold a product claiming to be Snake Oil for 50 cents a bottle a century ago until 1915 when he was charged with violating the federal food and drug act.

Hello everyone, I'm Jacklyn but you can call me Jackie. I'm excited and nervous to get started with this class as I'm sure you all are. My four factual/nonfactual things about myself are:

-I have lived most of my life in the state of Nevada, and moved to Washington almost a year ago.
-I'm a stay at home mom who has just recently went back to school to pursue a nursing degree.
-Some of my best memories are of Deep Sea fishing in Alaska.
-I'm a health nut. I enjoy running, bike riding, and eating healthy.
