In chapter three, Jackson and Jamieson provide the reader with eight tricks that corporations and politicians use to deceive the public.
The first trick Jackson and Jamieson give the reader is called misnomers. An example comes from the “assault weapon ban” which was signed by President Clinton in 1994. Even though the law claimed to ban assault weapons, it actually banned the manufacture and distribution of certain types of semiautomatic weapons. Words can be used to create an implication that may or may not be false.
