The issues that matter in our nation are increasingly complex and interwoven. One such issue is the manner in which power is generated, and where the various fuels come from in order to generate the power we so often take for granted. Because nearly every fuel source pollutes in some way, and more and more everyone across the nation and around the globe seek to be "greener" and more sustainable, there is often contradictory information promulgated by those seeking to advance their views with regard to green energy. John Stuart Mill, in chapter two, "Of the Liberty of Thought and Discussion" in his essay On Liberty, argues that it is important to have as much information on any issue as possible in order to come to even a reasonable partial truth with regard to that issue. He writes that "If there are any persons who contest a received opinion, or who will do so if law or opinion will let them, let us thank them for it, open our minds to listen to them, and rejoice that there is someone to do for us what we otherwise ought"(53). One group of people we need to thank are those who have filmed and published an expose of mountain top coal mining. They provide a number of truths about coal. The "I Love Mountains" organization, a group opposed to the removal of mountaintops in the Appalachian region. Through the use of a number of devices, the video "I Love Mountains" documents the modern mining practices that are destroying our environment, urging the viewer to save the mountains and promote more sustainable power sources.
