Summary 18-25
Chapter 18
- Because Jurgis does not have a lot of money he has to spend three extra days in jail because he does not have the money to pay for his trail. When Jurgis is released from jail, he finds that his home was resold to another family because his family could not afford the rent. He goes to talk with Grandmother Majauszkiene about the eviction and informs Jurgis that his family is staying in a boarding house. When he arrives at the house he finds that Ona has gone into premature labor. To find help for Ona, Jurgis sets out with one dollar and twenty-five cents.
Chapter 19
- Jurgis finds help from Madame Haupt, a Dutch midwife, for the money he had after begging her not to charge twenty-five dollars. Madame Haupt attends to Ona while Jurgis goes to a saloon he used to frequent. Many hours later, Jurgis returns to the house and finds that their baby is dead and that Ona is dying. Jurgis rushes to Ona only to hold her as she past. Jurgis takes money from Kotrina to go to a saloon to get drunk.
Chapter 20
- Ona is buried in potter’s field. Teta Elizobeta begs Jurgis to sober up and find a job but he soon finds out that he has been blacklisted in Packingtown by Phil Connor. After meeting an old acquaintance, he finds a job in a machine factory only to have the factory close shortly after.
Chapter 21
- Jurgis still is in search to find a job. Only the wages from the children selling newspapers keeps the family from starving. But Teta Elizobeta’s son goes to a dump to find food. One day a wealthy woman finds him digging in garbage and asks about his life. The boy tells her; with pity for the family, the woman visits the family in the boarding house. The woman is engaged to a president of a steel mill so she writes Jurgis a letter of recommendation and Jurgis gets a job. After working hard, Jurgis returns home one day to find that his only son has drowned in a mud puddle.
Chapter 22
- Jurgis leaves the family after seeing his son’s body. He heads to a train station that takes him to the country. Jurgis walks to farm where a farmer provides a meal and a place to sleep. The farmer also offers him a job but can only grantee work through November. Jurgis turns down the offer and heads further into the country.
Chapter 23
- Jurgis returns to Chicago looking for work. He finds a job digging underground tunnels for transportation of railway freight. He spends his money on alcohol and suffers a broken arm. Because of the injury, Jurgis spends Christmas in a hospital. He reminisces about past Christmas’. In the dead of winter, Jurgis is out of the hospital on the streets.
Chapter 24
- Jurgis meets Freddie Jones, a young, very rich man. Freddie is drunk and invites Jurgis to his house where he provides a large meal. Freddie also gives Jurgis a one-hundred dollar bill. When leaving the house after Freddie passes out, the butler Hamilton harasses Jurgis and kicks him out.
Chapter 25
- Jurgis goes to a bar to get change for the large bill but is robbed by a bartender. Jurgis attacks the bartender when he realizes that he had been cheated. A policeman grabs Jurgis and puts him in jail. He is sentenced by a judge to ten days in jail. While in jail, Jurgis meets Jack Duane again and agrees that a life of crime is the only way to survive. After series of crimes for politicians, Jurgis returns to Packingtown in search of a job. He finds a job as a hog trimmer. Jurgis still is working with the Republicans to get a candidate elected in a fraudulent way.

I think you did a great job. All of the major details seem to there and follow the order of the book. I especially like how summarized each chapter briefly rather than just listing details.
