You were supposed to revise the assesment of style too... I don't know if you will get this before class.

Please Bleck Please.

Post the study guide for the final before the weekend. It would be very appreciated. Thanks.

For our wiki....

Revise the part that you talked about for our midterm...

So whichever day we don't have seminar (either tomorrow or thursday) lets all meet in the library and talk about our final. I will let everyone in class though in case you don't get a chance to read this.

Dickinson--Last one!

What is x? I noticed the repetition of "I reason" and "But, what of this." By saying these she is saying she knows that this goes on but who cares kind of thing.

What does this do? This tells the reader that she knows that certain things happen and she knows the consequences but its like she is like so what?

What does this mean? This quote means that she knows about all the things that go on in life and she knows people die and stuff but its life.

The life of a slave girl.

"These God-breathing machines are no-more, in the sight of their masters, than the cotton they plant, or the horses they tend" (2212).

TOMORROW (for bleck)

I cannot make it to class tomorrow because something came up at work and they really needed me. But I revised my paper and I would like to talk with you about the changes that I made and if it will be enough. I was wondering if i could come in around 10:15ish or a little earlier and meet with you quickly?

Let me know please...

Thanks.

Whitman- Song of myself

"Clear and sweet is my soul, and clear and sweet is all that is not my soul" (2443).

What does this do? This quote sort of summed up the whole transcendentalism idea for me. They seem to be really into like their mind being pure and keeping themselves pure.

What does this mean? For me this meant that the people who believed in this wanted to listen to God through their minds and they wanted to remain pure as well including, their whole body and their mind.

Billy Bud- Journal 24

"He was illiterate; he could not read, but he could sing, and like the illiterate nightingale was sometimes the composer of his own song" (2054).

What does x do?: Before this was said in the story, it talks about how everyone likes Billy Bud and how he is so happy- go- lucky. So you would think he was intelligent. He is but not in the sense that he can read.

Poe!

"I prefer commencing with the consideration of an effect. Kepping originality always in view" (1672).

Poe wanted to be original and he didn't just want to follow the style that everyone else was writing. He continually talks about being different and refers to other artists who he says are boring. This pertains to how he writes "Nevermore" at the end of each sentence.

"Detail, step by step, the processes by which any one of his compositions attained its ultimate point of completion" (1672).
