Journal Two; X is equal to..?
I must say that for me this exercise was somewhat of an unexpected delight. I feel that varying perspectives and ideas are essential to everybody's lives, and this exercise was a very simple way of portraying how people think similarly and differently at the same time. Once I had exhausted the obvious answers, I was driven to more creative and at times humorous answers. I found it interesting that many people, including myself, appeared to be drawing on life experiences to find unique responses to these seemingly simple questions. In general, I think these questions cause people to go beyond the book's cover, so to speak. Personally, when I ask and answer these sorts of questions, I come to feel more aware of myself, my surroundings, and how all these things influence each other. I can also see this exercise setting a possible tone for this course by forcing us as students to be open-minded and think critically about seemingly ordinary objects/language/or situations.

What a Quarter Can Say About You...
It was interesting what you brought up about how people draw on experiences in order to answer these questions. Further, people's answers to these questions paint a small picture of their personality. I noticed that some people came up with clever or humorous responses to the questions, while my mind seemed to be stuck on a quarter being merely a monetary unit used to repay debts.
So I totally agree with the
So I totally agree with the part about this exercise making you feel more close to your surroundings. It was funny because I kinda just sat there and thought of all the things I do with a quarter. It's one of those things that you kinda just take advantage of. A quarter really doesn't have much meaning. I would rather have a dollar...

Personal Experiences
Thats a good point talking about how our personal experiences affect how we view say the quarter. I dont think we realize how much our subconscience effects our interpretations. For example, If you had recently recieved a monetary gift and it made you really happy, your more likely to think about the quarter providing happiness before other things. This would apply to many other instances.

I agree...
I feel the same way. I loved how it brought out others ideas and showed you a bit how othe people think. Your "quarter pounder" comment made me laugh, I love the creative answers, I would never have thought of that. I'm excited to think that this is the way we will be dealing with the things we read, it forces us to open our eyes to literature and gives us a chance to see how other people view it, forcing us to have a more open mind.
