Sonnet 120 “But your trespass becomes a fee. Mine ransoms yours and yours must ransom me.” Means essentially that their relationship has become something not looked well upon as he looks back at his “trespass” and feels regret, that for the experience he had to pay a price. In Sonnet 121 Shakespeare says “For why should others false adulterate eyes Give salutation to my sportive blood?” telling the word that the rest of the world shouldn’t matter to them and the world should mind its own business. When he refers to “blood” that puts no doubt in my mind that this was a sexual relationship between Shakespeare and the person to which these sonnets were writ. “By their rank thoughts my deeds must not be shown, unless this general evil they maintain: All men are bad and in their badness reign.” This text touches a little on the previous thought that the world should mind its own and not interfere or dictate his personal life and if they do be considers them evil or bad.
123 is a sonnet Shakespeare seems to be addressing time and all that he deems ill of it. He says great monuments like the pyramids are nothing out of the ordinary and a mockery of something greater; He however is saying that the current status of his relationship is nothing but a mockery of its former form to which he will always remember. Shakespeare then goes on to say that past nor present shouldn’t matter and he will always feel the same way. “For thy records and what we see doth lie… I will be true despite they scythe and thee.” I believe Shakespeare is saying that the past is false and he swears that death or mortal bonds will not hold him back.
125 is a rather peculiar sonnet and can be comprehended in many ways. He is appearing to become impatient with his relationship regarding the verse “Lose all and more by paying too much rent, For compound sweet forgoing simple savour.” Shakespeare also seems to be fretting over the complications in the relationship as these sonnets are very complex emotions some of which are impossible to fully comprehend. “Hence thou suborned informer a true soul When most impeached stands least in thy control.” Speaking to his lover trying to convince him of the sincerity of his words and that he is losing control of his senses by not listening to the words of his lover.
