Journal Ten: Writing a Sonnet

Posted at 8:00 Monday morning. Sorry about the late notice but I picked up a nasty bug or something and am sick today. We'll take a shot at reading the sonnets tomorrow and then starting on The Merchant of Venice. There won't be any MOV journals for a few days as we'll be doing some preparatory exercises, but do start reading so you'll have time to re-read as we move along.

Your journal assignment for the weekend is to compose a sonnet. We'll be reading them in class on Monday, so don't come unprepared. You will be graded on whether or not you do it, not on "how well" you do. See you then.

Sonnet

My brother, he became a statistic,
A number on a chart in someone's book.
Knowing they wanted to cut off his dick
He'd wake up some mornings afraid to look.
Suffering delusions from day to day.
Living in fear of the demons, he's been
Hospitalized again, a long term stay.
When he comes home, what state will he be in?
His state was a monster, impregnating
Unknowing women, at least a million
Now a million children has fathered
Forgetting that he was his mother's son
So on November fourth two thousand by
Nine my brother showed us all how to fly
