Stupid Cupid.

Why does this small creature bother me so?
You know, the pink cherub they call Cupid,
All strung up with sick love arrows and bow;
Methinks his purpose is rather stupid.
He makes some man and woman fall in love,
Making money on sweet Valentine's Day
Selling pink hearts, flowers and above
All, celebrate to make those dearly pay
Who forget cheap fourteen february.
And if you can tell I'm quite sick of it,
But then again, on the sly contrary,
Hopeless I could fall and love every bit!
Ha! Never I, for I am much against
Love and all its baggage, it makes me pissed.

Commercialization
I really liked that at first this sonnet was about Valentines Day, love and all the connotations that go with it, but it really seems to be about the commercialization of the holiday. This holiday is no longer about being with the one you love, but it's about buying things to express this feeling instead. Your entire second verse says it very well and calling february 14th cheap really hits your point across. Unfortunately it seems that nowadays in our society that if businesses can't capitalize on love and holidays, than it's not worth celebrating. Everything has become commercialized, not just valentine's day.
Yes, one aspect!
Jessica,
You are right about that one. One of the messages is about the commercialization of the holiday. Does it bother anyone else that Valentine's Day stuff is displayed in department stores right after the first of the year, sometimes even right after Christmas? After being bombarded with Christmas holiday crap right after Halloween and it not stopping for two months, I really don't want to see pink happy hearts and 'I LOVE YOU' plastered all over everything. When do we get to step back and take a breath from the holiday rush? Thanks for your response!

Brilliant
I thought that was perfect. Really Shakeperean in the sense that it references Roman Mythology and uses "Methinks" then it shifts into the modern symbol of love, Valentines Day. It has a strong undertone against the traditional aspect of "love" which i really like because it is a personal poem, yet it is attacking the global system.
