Journal 12: I wonder why we ate those horses?

So, the exercise was actually pretty fun. It was interesting how the lines could be emphasized differently. Some of the parts lacked punctuation in spots, and I think that sort of goes with how the sentences were organized. Inserting commas in certain spots changed the mood of the line quite drastically. I have a really bad memory for specifics, but the line where the person tells them that we had eaten the horse was one that I remember that was kinda interesting. They could have either laughed as they said it, emphasizing it less. Or, some of the groups would yell the line, which made different as well. I think it ties into the sentence interpretation quite well. Each person could interpret the line differently, giving the skit a different meaning even though they were reading the same words.

Punctuation Is Important

I agree with Melissa about the punctuation being super important. Especially that last line with the dashes "I didn't--they did (hm,hm)--enlisted men" or something close to that. No one said that line the same. I don't think anyone really knew what to make of the two hm's in the sentence either. Some people coughed, other just said them like they were written, and some emphasised them. There was a lot of variety. Good overall analysis on the exercise too. :]

punctuation

I'm glad you pointed that out about the punctuation of the original sentences. That definately leaves it open for interpretation. Melissa
