Journal 19: What is Richard?
When reading through act III it becomes apparent that Richard II has moved away from his role as careless and naive king and is now faced with his own downfall. In this new situation that Richard has gotten himself into he no longer has the power with people turning on him on all sides. He has lost his allies and his armies, he is in a hopeless situation, and is humbled by how easily his mistakes have caught up to him. Richard has taken on the role of victim, however loosely that should be applied. Richard comes off as young child trying to come to terms with how his bad choices have created his downfall. He is now at the mercy of bullingbroke and he is very much aware that his has virtually lost his battle to retain power. He is full of regret of his actions at the end of this act it seems.

Yeah, i think he has
Yeah, i think he has definately screwed him self and he realizes it, but I think he still retains a little bit of his smug nature. He seems so sarcastic but I think he might be mostly mad at himself for screwing up his life. Now he has nothing.Personally I don't feel the least bit sorry for him.
His situation.
I agree that Richard a the victim should be loosely applied! His Karma wasn't too good. I don't feel bad for him, I thought he was a horrible person who didn't take responsibility for his actions from the beginning. Do you think Richard is getting what he deserves? Or do you have some sympathy for him? If so, why?
