Well, for staging act 3 scene 1, obviously you would have Antipholus of Ephesus and his crew outside the gates of Phoenix. The audience would only be able to see the group outside the gate, and you would only be able to hear the voice of Dromio of Syracuse. This would make the audience on the outside as well, giving them sort of the perspective that the locked out group would have. I think this part especially would be best performed as presentational. Antipholus of Ephesus doesn't make a whole lot of sense in his reasons for wanting into Phoenix, so I don't think this was meant to be representational. It doesn't make enough sense. The scene has more of a "little pig, little pig, let me come in" type of aura. If it was performed as presentational, I think the comical elements would show more. The outside group could be really dramatic, and the insults that are thrown back and fourth would be more funny than mean.

You cannot see me.

If you're going to stage the outside group as the only ones being seen...how are they going to stand? Is the hidden Dromio going to be off to the side so the outside group is forced to turn to the side so that we can see them? Or would they be moving around? Nell is introduced as a character in this scene as well? Wouldn't you want her to be seen by the audience so they know who she is?

nice dude

although contradictory to my own i liked what u had to say, especially about what perspective the characters had when in more of a presentational form and how that would effect the audience. I didnt perceive the dramatic comedy that could be achieved through it, that type of humor would make a lot of sense for that time period.
