I really felt that the play is supposed to be presentational. It's sort of already an absurd story, so why wouldn't it be performed absurdly? One might perform a character as quite outspoken and overly exaggerated to achieve the most comedy possible. Overdoing the performance helps add to the comical aspect of the play, and that's how I think Shakespeare meant for it to be.
