Journal 23: Stand on X.

There would be emphasis on representational because at this point the audience has been introduced to the characters and should have a general idea of what is going on. Also, the characters should be more involved with their emotions (Dromio of S confused, but hell or high water no one is getting into the Phoenix, Antipholus of E angry and more angry that he cannot get into his own house, same as Dromio of E wondering who the hell has replaced him and why can they not get in, Balthasar just kinda standing back and becoming the voice of reason at the end) and concentrate mainly on the door, getting in or not letting in. I wouldn't let the inside and outside groups see each other, but allow the audience to see both groups at all times. I would do this by placing a wall with a door in the middle of the stage. It would be high enough in the back (with the door, closed) so the groups cannot see each other adn the front of the wall would look crumbled and taper down in the front so that the audience can see both groups. Dromio of S would be sitting in the inside, confused but determined, and jump out of his seat and yell at the wall by the end, Nell could come up and kinda love up on Dromio of S (forshadowing his rant). On the outside, the group could be standing like a flock of sheep, waiting to get in. Antipholus of E would end up pacing around and yelling, Dromio of E the same and maybe leaning against teh wall yelling back and teh other Dromio. Ahhh..the confusion.

Our version vs. your version

So after class I was thinking about the way that we all staged this scene and if we could have all corallated our our thoughts on stageing, this would have been good. but thats just my opinion. if you read in my blog how i would have done this maybe you'll se what i mean...

Staging.

It is interesting how some would stage it with the characters not seeing each other at all, pretending they couldn't see each other, split levels...the possibilities are endless. It may have been better if we had all tried to figure out what to do, but like I said, it is interesting to see different ideas.
