What is X?
Well X is Richard and Harry. Richard was King and is now giving up his crown to Harry. Therefore Richard is now King.
What does X do?
Richard is very unstable and is giving his crown to Harry. He does not want to give the crown but he knows that he will no longer be able to fulfill his duties. Richard tells Harry that although he is giving him the crown Richard would still be keeping his grievances. Harry takes the crown and tries to convince Richard that he takes all that goes with the crown. Richard seems to been and emotional mess, while Harry is slightly solemn but excited that he is to be the new King.
What does X mean?
Richard is no longer the King and he has in his mind failed God and his appointed duty. Harry takes the throne and becomes King Henry.

To The Point
This is very to the point, but very true about Richard and Harry. It also shows the realization Richard has, that maybe he isn't the best king and that Harry would do a better job of it. Richard as a person knows this is best for the country and for the people, but he still is worried about the divine part of him. If being king is a divine right, than what is waiting for him in the afterlife? And if Harry becomes king, but not by divine right like Richard, will he be a good one? Even though he was not "handpicked by God"?
