Journal 22: Cases of mistaken identity
The Comedy of Errors is a comedy which should rely heavily on audience participation. In a representational interpretation I feel like the audience would consider The Comedy of Errors less of a comedy and find it more serious than intended. The Comedy of Errors relies heavily on the audiences knowledge of who the characters are in order to make the play a comedy. In the scene where Antipholus of Syracuse is mistaken for Antipholus of Ephesus by his slave is one of my favorite scenes of comedy written by Shakespeare and here the audience can either play a very important role in that comedy or no role at all but in my opinion the audience is just as important to the scene as the players.

A very presentational comedy
I would have disagreed with you earlier, but after writing my essay on The Comedy of Errors I believe that Shakespeare is trying to engage the audience, in both the comedy and deeper philosophical and religious meanings.
